Machine arrière #1: the radio-transistor

A collaboration between Universcience and Radio France Studios to understand how radio brought about a veritable revolution in sound.

A public establishment grouping together the Palais de la découverte and the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, Universcience aims to make science accessible to all and to promote scientific, technical and industrial culture.

The request

Universcience is launching in 2025 a exhibition series entitled "Machine arrière", dedicated to the history of science and technology. Within this framework, the institution aims to offer scientific content that combines artistic originality with innovation in sound techniques and storytelling. This initiative began in May 2025 with a first exhibition dedicated to the radio-transistor.

Our response

Radio France Studios contributed its expertise in sound design to develop interactive museum experiences. These installations, enriched with scenic and visual elements, highlight historical objects from the Cité's collection. This collaboration creates immersive and educational experiences, fostering the public's discovery and understanding of the history of science and technology.
