The black poet

A unique musical and poetic reading, where French-Senegalese actor Adama Diop takes on the texts of Kery James, collected in his eponymous collection.

This show highlights the power and poetry of rap and slam, revealing their essential place in contemporary literature. To celebrate his thirty-year career, Kery James has compiled his most memorable texts, as well as previously unpublished ones, offering a committed, hybrid voice that transcends the boundaries of rap and the cités. Accompanied by musicians Mocke (guitar) and Baben Sissoko (kora), Adama Diop brings these poems to life, interspersed with an excerpt from Aimé Césaire's famous Cahier d'un retour au pays natal. An original France Culture creation, born at the Avignon Festival in July 2023.
